Why do people think museums are boring?
I’m sorry, but I had to open up with that line. Why? Because it’s true. Admit it. Get over the fact that you are a museum geek and most people are not, and that most people would find boring what you think it’s so amazingly unique, original, exquisite, and worth displaying for the masses to see. (Ahem… masses that will never actually show up to see anything because they are too busy worrying about the next celebrity oops)
So where does that leave us? I don’t know. But I know one thing: I think museums hold some of the most intense, worth watching things that exist on this planet.
So, yes. We have a problem here don’t we? On the one hand, we are stocking amazing pieces of art and history inside these buildings and making them available to the masses for a low fee, and sometimes even for free. On the other hand… people are too spoiled to know how good they have it and they don’t even care.
Let me tell you right now, it’s not their fault. It’s actually YOUR fault as a museum professional. How can you have under your sleeve some of the most amazing art the world has ever known, and not be able to engage people with it?
Doesn’t this enrage you? I surely hope it does. And if this is the case, you can tell us all about it and let us know why you want to write a column in this website. Just get in touch with us and let us know why you would make a great writer and why we should publish your articles.
