The Curators Committee offers financial support to curators in the form of fellowships and an exchange program. Two fellowships are awarded each year to attend the annual American Association of Museums Conference. Please visit www.curcom.org for additional information. 2010 CurCom Fellowship Award Applicants Two recipients will be awarded $1,000 each. These two $1,000 fellowships are intended to help defray the cost of attending the May, 2010 AAM Annual Meeting, held next year in Los Angeles, CA. Please note that fellowship winners will be expected to attend the CurCom business luncheon at the Annual Meeting, where they will be recognized. Application Eligibility: · An applicant must never have attended an AAM Annual meeting. · An applicant’s major job responsibility (at least 75% of their regular duties) must be the care and interpretation of their institution’s collection.
To apply, please send: A) A cover letter expressing: · How your participation in the AAM annual meeting would benefit the applicant and their institution · How your professional development is important to the applicant’s career and to furthering the mission of their institution · A brief description of how collections are significant to your work and · An explanation of your institution’s financial need for him/her to receive this fellowship. B) A letter of recommendation from the immediate supervisor, emphasizing his/her contribution to the profession C) An up-to-date resume D) An explanation of your institution's organizational chart, listing appropriate job titles and hierarchy All materials must be submitted together. The Historians’ National Network of Museums Australia and Curators’ Committee of the American Association of Museums are pleased to announce the launch of the 2010 Global Curator Exchange Fellowship Program. This program is open to one curator from Australia and one from the United States. Each will be awarded a stipend to attend the other’s national conference. The conferences are the largest national gathering of museum professionals and host an array of professional workshops, sessions and activities. The Australian curator will receive US $1,500 to help defray the cost of attending the American Association of Museums Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, 23-27 May, 2010. The US curator will receive AUD $3,200 to attend the Museums Australia conference in Melbourne, 28 September – 2 October 2010. Support for the 2010 Australian leg of the Global Curator program is generously provided by Museum Historians’ NN and ICOM Australia. Entries are currently being accepted for the 22nd Annual Excellence in Exhibition Competition. The competition recognizes outstanding achievement in exhibition from all types of museums, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens and non-commercial institutions offering exhibitions to the public. All exhibitions regardless of size or budget will be considered. The exhibition must have opened to the public between November 30, 2007 and November 30, 2009. Institutions submitting entries must have one team member who is a member of AAM. The deadline for entries is January 11, 2010 (Postmark Date). Winners will be announced at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Museums in Los Angeles in 2010, and will receive national recognition in the AAM publication Museum News. In addition, all entries will be displayed at the Marketplace of Ideas. |
